Honed and polished: Online sales at August Rüggeberg

SAP E-Commerce implementation with Sybit.
For many years, August Rüggeberg made it comfortable and easy for its customers to place orders on the Internet using a B2B Web shop based on SAP Online Store. However, in light of new challenges and the fact that support for the shop was discontinued a long time ago, a new solution became necessary. Since Rüggeberg had achieved such positive results with SAP Online Store and was also sold on the merits of its successor, the tool manufacturer decided to implement SAP E-Commerce. The company expects to see major benefits from the "business-on-behalf" scenario now at its disposal, because it enables dealers and subsidiaries to enter quotations and orders on behalf of end customers even if they do not have an ERP connection at the time. Orders received by fax or e-mail and entered manually in the ERP system are now a thing of the past.
Challenges
- Create customer-specific product catalogs.
- Make it possible to enter all articles from the ERP system directly in the shopping cart on the basis of product numbers (this means that all articles can be ordered online, even if they are not listed in the shop's product catalog).
- Display the European Article Number (EAN) in addition to the product number from the ERP system.
- Make it possible to search and order on the basis of the EAN.
- Enable the trending function: A Business Intelligence (BI) system generates lists for shop users detailing all the articles they have ordered over a defined period. They can choose products from this list and add them directly to their shopping cart.
- Adapt the user interface to match Rüggeberg's corporate design.
Results
- Regardless of time differences, the shop is available to end customers, subsidiaries, and dealers around the clock.
- Users can request quotations, check availability, and place orders online.
- Thanks to the dealer scenario, dealers and subsidiaries can enter quotations and orders on behalf of end customers even when they are not connected to SAP ERP.
- Integration with SAP ERP means that the respective documents pass directly into the ERP system. This makes for faster, simpler business processes.
- The shop solution provides the greatest possible investment protection by conforming to the SAP standard system as far as possible.
- After appropriate training from Sybit, Rüggeberg IT staff are now in a position to make changes to the shop themselves and support the accompanying system landscape on their own.
